Region 4 Hybridizer Award

The Region 4 Hybridizer Award recognizes an outstanding cultivar hybridized in Region 4. The nominating process is controlled by the hybridizer, similar to the ADS Honorable Mention award. Each eligible hybridizer in Region 4 may enter one of their registrations in a given year.

Official Guidelines

  • Each hybridizer residing in Region 4 may nominate one of their cultivars in a given year.
  • Eligible cultivars must:
    • Be hybridized in Region 4.
    • Be registered with ADS/ADS within the last ten years (including the year of nomination).
    • Have been introduced by a hybridizer still residing in Region 4, or introduced by a hybridizer who was living in Region 4 at the time of their death.
  • Nominations on behalf of a deceased Region 4 hybridizer may be made by the Region 4 Awards Committee.
  • A cultivar may be nominated for up to three consecutive years and then becomes ineligible.
  • A winning cultivar may not be re-entered.
  • The hybridizer who wins is not eligible to enter the contest again for the next three calendar years.

How to Enter

To enter, send an email to the Region 4 Newsletter Editor by March 15 with:

  • Your name and mailing address.
  • The name of the nominated cultivar.
  • A high-resolution photo of the cultivar attached to the email.

Voting Procedure

  • Photos of all entries are published in the Spring issue of Daylilies in the Great Northeast.
  • The same photos are posted on the Region 4 website so members can view entries throughout the bloom season.
  • Only Region 4 ADS members are eligible to vote; each member may vote once for a single cultivar on the ballot.
  • An electronic ballot is emailed to members when voting opens.
  • All votes must be cast by October 1; results are tallied and sent to the Regional President.
  • The winning cultivar is announced on the Region 4 website and in the newsletter, with a photograph of both the cultivar and the hybridizer.
  • The award is presented at the following Regional summer meeting and consists of an engraved plate or plaque with the cultivar name, registration date, and hybridizer.
